Vine upgrades its videos to a high-definition format

Vine upgrades its videos to a high-definition format -- AppAdvice

Vine videos are getting a lot clearer. The social networking service, owned by Twitter, announced today all recorded and played videos will now be at a high-definition 720p resolution instead of lower quality 480p.

A comparison of Vine quality. A 480p video is on the left while the right is a shot from the new high-definition video.

The quality improvements will be quickly rolling out in the next few days. Along with the iOS app, high-quality Vines can be embedded on Web sites, like this one.

Vine is designed for the iPhone/iPod touch and can be downloaded now for free on the App Store.

Earlier this month, Vine made the app even faster with a couple of notable changes that made it possible for users to watch videos even if they didn't have an Internet connection or are using airplane mode. The app automatically starts downloading content - including your home feed, activity notifications, and videos in the Explore section - even before you open it.

And thanks to a smaller video file size, Vines can be downloaded much faster when someone has a slower Internet connection.

It's been a big month for Vine - faster loading times and higher quality videos will only make the service even better.
